I am dying to finally upgrade my Radeon 7970 which I bought almost 3 years ago so hopefully the rumors are true. No doubt the introduction of this card will also lower the prices of all current gpus. Also, if the chart is true then Nvidia will release their 980 Ti version.

It’s weird that AMD is not saying it’s their product and bragging about it. I would like to see AMD come up from the hole there are in this days but this to me looks fake. I’ll believe it when I see it.

This has to be priced right from the start. The reason I switched to AMD when I upgraded from an 8800GT to a Radeon 4870 was because the 4870 gave GTX260(and sometimes GTX280 i.e. GRID)-class performance, for a lot less money than what nVidia was providing. I believe the GTX260 was going for $400+ while the 4870 was $250 or $300. AMD has to do that again. Release "Captain Jack" as the R9-380x, release it for $330 or less and deflate any interest in nVidia's products. I don't know what they would do with all the 290 and 290X's in the wild, probably what nVidia did to the GTX780, GTX780Ti and Titan, discontinue and collapse the price.

Based on the ROPs this is for sure the 380x/390 as the 390x has much more ROPs. I expect about a 32% increase on 390x over team Green with it being 20nm and HBM.

... heavy grain and salt...
Only better production technology or the new memory system can explain this. Possible, but let us see. Hopefully this is true, it makes good leap to next generation!
But supposedly next AMD is still 28 nm, so this would be surprise.

Rumor mill is its an 380x as it doesn't need the hybrid water/air cooling thats been talked about. Not to mention what would AMD use to compete with the titan II if their top offering was less than 200Watts.

For those of you wondering, the entire r9 3xx series is referred to as Pirate Islands, hence the Captain Jack. The 390X is codenamed Bermuda, 380X is Fiji, and the 370X is Treasure Island. Also, there most likely will not be a Nvidia GPU named the 980ti as it implies an unlocked version of the 980. The 980 is already fully unlocked so that name is pointless.

If its at 28nm I will pass this one up. No point buying on this process node. Otherwise, Its all aboard the pirate boat. Someone at AMD seems to have kept their job, the guy who names these chips. He is worth every penny because he comes up with the best names. If the unthinkable happens and AMD goes bankrupt, I am certain that guy will find a home somewhere.

The insane thing is, this card is more than likely the 380X. AMD said their 390X would be aimed at GM200 a month and a half after the 980 was released, and the 380X/380 would be aimed at the 970 and 980, so they knew what the performance would likely be. They also knew that GM200 is supposed to be 50% faster than GM204, and took that into consideration for their announcement. Also, the 4096-bit bus that (should) be present on this card, and the 512GB/s of bandwidth it has would influence those numbers. I would guess that the card would have to have a little over 3000 SP to give those numbers...

Why would anyone want this to be 20nm? Wouldn't it be better if they could gain these numbers with 28nm, especially considering yields and costs.

I really hope AMD pulls through. I'm rooting for them. Like Men at Work say "the underdog will eventually survive" and that ain't no jive.
