Albeit a very credible explanation, but still so cynical!
(Exercising the utmost self restraint I will *not* go on to mention the old

Nothing about corporate raiders, and pirates in business suits brandishing
briefcases as they jump form moving sky scrapers, etc etc etc...)

external DSL modem looking very "retro" atop my mini-tower. Green light for
Ethernet = OK; red flashing light as it awaits DSL signal (and presumably
someone to get around to updating my account = not OK ; green "activity"
light-- "ping" nope... nuthin... IE6 from any url shortcut: "please log on
with your stinking DSL account..."
Hmphf! Just have to wait then...
Related question: why is it that you're supposed to leave the thing on for
the 1st ten days? What difference would that make?
