[citation][nom]Cataclysm_ZA[/nom]Actually, the Xbox 360 can and regularly does apply AA to games where the developers have used the eDRAM for free anti-aliasing without any performance hit on the Xenos GPU. The PS3 can technically do AA as well, but because of the way both consoles have their RAM allocations set out in hardware, PS3 owners get the short end of the stick because getting AA applied requires a bit more work (by "a bit", we could be talking weeks or even months), especially when both platforms are being developed for side-by-side. Both consoles can also run games at 1080p (not upscaled). Its merely the fact that there's not enough bandwidth available that forces developers to lower the resolution and compensate by adding some eye candy. Few games can output to full 1080p because they don't hammer the bandwidth so much (Wipeout HD and Prince of Persia, for example).I agree, it would be nice, but targeting a resolution few people use isn't going to help their cause to get everyone and his dog to buy one. 1080p is now the default standard and targeting rock-solid performance with full 720p 3D is more likely the goal both companies are moving towards. Correct me if I'm wrong, 3D games on both platforms currently renders the final image at 640x360 resolution (half 720p) or 640x720 for some games on the Xbox platform. Only the PS3 can output full 1080p 3D content, but that's restricted to Blu-Ray movies and the Photo Viewer.4K content is also pretty scarce, so for now it'll only apply to video content, whereas games will probably have to be upscaled on 4K monitors.[/citation]
I'm pretty sure that 640x360 is a fourth of 720p, not half. Also, was 640x720 a typo? That's an 8x9 resolution and that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
