Rumor: UK May Not Get PlayStation 4 Until 2014

And then Sony will once again become upset that we in Europe seek ways to buy them from Japan/USA, and threaten more small businesses that participate in the sale.

So new GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA moved to 3Q or end of the year.
new consoles in Europe(+UK) moved/delayed/held till 2014.
...this means by the time they launch on EU the hardware will be not so new/powerful.

Conclusion why am I surprised and why do I even care?

i dont really understand why we need ps4 ? i mean pc hardware is evolving so fast , what you bought is outdated one week later .. when ps4 comes out , if its not upgradable the hardware will already be 5 years old and by how fast tech moves that actually means its 10 years old ... hope you can upgrade this

"Someone told us there might be a PS4 soon. Someone else told us it might take longer to get released somewhere. Are are reporting on it because..." Awesome reporting. Rumors make for solid journalism.

Pc's are and will always be in a league of their own. One of the uses you'll agree on is they're used to develop software for consoles, tablets, phones, you name it, every device on the planet are all coded on computers similar to PCs in a lab...

When it comes to games though, the majority of developers are moving at the same pace as consoles. Sad i know, but you, i and every other PC gamer need the ps4 and the next xbox to shift a new phase in gaming ASAP. Long cycles will continue to be like this until more developers like GabeN have the balls to say no to slow.

Consoles are a major source of income for software development companies. Period. It'll never change. I like when the new machines come out. They do a pretty damn good job with the limited hardware at their disposal and make some pretty killer titles. So much so, they make the game for the console first, then port it to PC.

I am an avid PC gamer and have a pretty decent machine (660 Ti, Core i7 3820 @ 4.2Ghz, 8GB ram @ 1600Mhz, etc..) but I would welcome any console into my arsenal of fun.

Because 90% of PC games are constrained to PS3/XBox360 graphics at the moment.

The majority of games (at least modern games), even those that have console versions, have far greater graphics quality on modern PCs than console-quality graphics. I don't know of any exceptions at all. They are constrained by the consoles, but not even remotely to such an extent that they are remotely comparable to the consoles.

Still, if PC gaming was the larger market, the present day cutting edge would be far higher than where it is. It's similar to how PC monitors hit 1920x1200, but then regressed to 1080p, as all the poor and uninformed masses thought 1080p was the best you could get and would never pay for 1200p or more.

The ps3 and xbox cant even do 1080p or AA, its all 720p with no AA which is why it looks so bad compared to a pc. I really hope the ps4 and xbox 720 step it up big time to at least 2560x1440 with 8xAA which will still look really good on a 4k tv in the next 5-6 years. Heres hoping they acheive the goal.

Actually, the Xbox 360 can and regularly does apply AA to games where the developers have used the eDRAM for free anti-aliasing without any performance hit on the Xenos GPU. The PS3 can technically do AA as well, but because of the way both consoles have their RAM allocations set out in hardware, PS3 owners get the short end of the stick because getting AA applied requires a bit more work (by "a bit", we could be talking weeks or even months), especially when both platforms are being developed for side-by-side.

Both consoles can also run games at 1080p (not upscaled). Its merely the fact that there's not enough bandwidth available that forces developers to lower the resolution and compensate by adding some eye candy. Few games can output to full 1080p because they don't hammer the bandwidth so much (Wipeout HD and Prince of Persia, for example).

I agree, it would be nice, but targeting a resolution few people use isn't going to help their cause to get everyone and his dog to buy one. 1080p is now the default standard and targeting rock-solid performance with full 720p 3D is more likely the goal both companies are moving towards. Correct me if I'm wrong, 3D games on both platforms currently renders the final image at 640x360 resolution (half 720p) or 640x720 for some games on the Xbox platform. Only the PS3 can output full 1080p 3D content, but that's restricted to Blu-Ray movies and the Photo Viewer.

4K content is also pretty scarce, so for now it'll only apply to video content, whereas games will probably have to be upscaled on 4K monitors.

True thats probably exactly how they will do it, just upscale it. Good for the whole industry to have better looking games but for pc gamers it will be very last gen since alot including myself have been playing games at 1080p 8xAA at 60fps for over 3 years now and it time to move forward really, but thats the whole pc gamer thing, to be well ahead of the cosoles 😀 Easy to understand why through, 1 great video card costs more than the whole console and game programers allways seem to include all the top of the line video cards in there testing lineup for better/more graphical settings which is nice. I do like my ps3 though, if only it could play mkv's 😉 i doubt the ps4 will add this feature either though but heres hoping

I didn't know the PS4 was suppose to hit so soon. I wonder if there are any killer titles for it lined up. Who needs a fancy new console, when you can't play anything fun on it.

I'm pretty sure that 640x360 is a fourth of 720p, not half. Also, was 640x720 a typo? That's an 8x9 resolution and that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
