This is why went with 3090 because if bought the 3080 would regret buying it because the 3080ti just come out, Hopefuly 3rd partys 3080ti will learn from there mistakes with 3080!
That makes zero sense. So you are happy you paid an absurd amount, $1500, for a tiny bit of game performance gain because you would be upset if you only paid $700 for a card and one came out a few months for only $300 more that had the same tiny bit of game performance gain. So you are saying you are glad you wasted $500-$800 (+)?
If that sort of rationalization helps you sleep at night, more power to you.

What would be hilarious is if AMD releases a Radeon RX 6900 with 76 CU, 4 more CU's than the 6800XT but 4 less CU's then the 6900 XT and gives you 16 GB of GDDR6 and charges you only $825 and is about 96% of the performance of the 3090

Ergo the Hypothetical RX 6900 would be 96% of the performance @ 55% of the cost of the 3090

"Given the similarities and differences, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti would be a limied version of the GeForce RTX 3090. "

The Brits get everything first! :)
$500 for 4GB of ram, Nvidia is actually competing with Apple, not AMD. For the highest prices that can be charged for memory.

I doubt that the specs are true . it makes no sense because this will kill the RTX 3090 entirely .. 4GB extra Vram wont make any difference what so ever once you have 20GB VRAM.

The rumored specs are not right. it will be the same RTX 3080 with 2x10GB.

I get what you are saying but that will be a significant change of standard for the X80Ti. The 3090 is a rebranded Titan by NVidia’s own claims. The x80Ti has always been a slightly cut down Titan with near identical gaming performance, it has not been a modified X80. However it is unusual how close the 3080 is in performance to the Titan grade card so things are already different this time around. As soon as they squeeze in a new card between the 3080 and 3090 it’s going to devalue the worth of the 3090.

I also don’t see a 20GB 3080 being a compelling reason to pay an extra 30% when there is no evidence that 10GB is limiting. The $999 to $1199 price point is the obvious open spot between 3080 & 3090 pricing. By the time 10GB may become a problem RTX IO will be available which may negate the problem. If I was a game developer it also doesn’t make sense to make a game that requires a Titan level card to run properly and NVidia are still the vast majority of market share of gpu used so what VRAM AMD offers is far less relevant to game devs if a much smaller customer base use it.

My instinct is telling me the 3080Ti won’t be a 20GB 3080 but that’s a pure guess, you may be right. Only time will tell. A 3080 Super on the other hand I could see being a 20GB card. Price it at $899 and then $1199 for a 3080Ti. That seems more likely to me.

10GB will be limiting in the near future .. also , this is to compete against AMD 16GB VRAM ... it is about marketing as well.

Also , forget about Titan , Titan drivers are Gone . it is all gaming cards now.

Lets just assume RX 6900 XT is faster or equal to RTX 3090
and Nvidia is releasing a slower card than RTX 3090 for the price of AMD RX 6900 XT ?!

Who the hell is going to buy this out of stock 3080 TI ?!
Why to bother the card is out of stock :p

You would also be losing some memory bandwidth compared to the 3090 due to those missing VRAM chips, so performance wouldn't be quite on par with it. The numbers here are also suggesting a lower TDP matching that of the 3080, so at least the Founder's Edition would likely get the 3080's smaller cooler and lower power limit if those prove to be true. So while the card would be matching the 3090 in terms of core count, memory performance and power limits would still be on par with the 3080, which should result in performance somewhere in-between the two. Considering Nvidia has released 80 Ti cards that performed within about 5% of their Titan cards in the past, a 3080 Ti with those specs for $500 less than a 3090 wouldn't be particularly surprising.

If they just gave a 3080 20GB of VRAM with nothing else changed, performance would remain identical to the existing 3080 in all current games, which would make it a much harder upsell than if it also got 5-10% more performance at 4K.

When there's only around a 10-15% performance difference at 4K between a 3080 and a 3090, there isn't exactly much room to add two more cards in-between.

Not really , this card will be for the people who want more VRAM , and the $250 increase is about right for the price of the additional GDDR6X . you get what you pay for.

Also , this card is important to compete against 16GB VRAM from AMD . if the AMD card turns out to be the same performance , people will pick it up over Nvidia Just for the missing VRAM .

The $1000 price suggested here is $300 above the 3080, and I rather doubt an extra 10GB of GDDR6X costs Nvidia anywhere near that much. I don't know the exact cost they are paying for it, but it's almost certainly less than HBM2, and 8GB of HBM2 was estimated to be somewhere around $150 over three years ago when AMD's Vega 56 and 64 first launched. That extra 10GB of GDDR6X probably doesn't add too much more than $100 to the card's cost.

And again, while some might be willing to pay around 40% more for a card with the vague possibility of potentially getting better performance in some titles years down the line, most would want to see at least some more performance now to justify spending that extra $300. Unlocking those additional cores does that. If yields are reasonably good where they are getting a disproportionately large number of fully-functional chips that could be used in a 3090 relative to the number of people willing to pay twice as much as a 3080, then unlocking those cores would add nothing to their manufacturing cost.

1 GB of GDDR6 is $11-$12

1G of HBM2 is $22-25

GDDR6X I could not find , But it is very close to HBM2

Here is a wild guess ,

The RTX 3080 TI will be an improved RTX 3080 made using 7nm process from TSMC

most likely not because it makes no Sense at all... 7nm mobile gpu on the other hand makes a lot of Sense!
7nm production node is so full used that putting it to the desktop part seems to be impossible. Making a smaller amounth of 7nm mobile GPUs to $3500 laptops... that is quite possible!

most customers... In every case where Nvidia has had slower gpu at higher price than amd... nvdia has sold more GPUs! So nvdia can easily outsell amd by making worse gpu at higher price. It has happened before and most likely happen Also in the future.
