I stumbled across an article stating that the new RX 7000 series cards are reporting A0 stepping via vbios for these cards and that might be a root cause of lowered performance vs what was expected out of the 7000 series cards (here). It was also stated that due to this being a hardware issue, that it would take a respin of the silicon to fix the issue which is rumored to be RDNA 3+. At some level it seems like people grasping for an answer to why the 7000 series cards didn't perform up to their expectations, but at the same time there are various reports of clock speeds being all over the place which (if accurate) lends credence to the rumor (respin). I also found a thread on the AMD community forums where one user had asked AMD directly with no answer as of yet (here). Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge on the issue? I was so excited to purchase a 7900 xtx and now even though its all just speculation there is that slight bit of doubt in the back of my mind.

Understood, I would wait a while until this shakes out either way. When enough are out in the wild, if there is a problem it will rear its ugly head like the Rtx 4090 Plugs melting. This is always a problem with any new model of a product be it electronic or even a car.
That's what I was thinking as well to just wait a bit, my haste is due to GPU tariff exemptions possibly ending at the end of 2022 in the USA. If the A0 rumors can be proven to be false, and I can pick one up before the end of the year I will be able to save about 25% on the purchase.

The crazy power draw is what scares me. 460watts on Doom. You have a few days left to watch for any new news. Shame on AMD.
I agree the power usage is literally insane. I've heard people chock it up to bad drivers (the common AMD fallback) but idk if thats the entire issue there. I have also heard rumblings that AMD software guys are being told to work over the holiday to sort drivers out too so......time will tell.
