I personally don't bother unless I run into trouble. Just uninstall AMD drivers & software, shutdown, swap hardware, boot up, install fresh drivers. I've had pretty good success with that process.
I've no doubt @atomicWAR is right and running DDU reduces the chances of any issues, but remember there's nothing stopping you running DDU later if you do run into problems with the new drivers. It just wipes the slate clean from a driver perspective. I'd personally use that as a troubleshooting step rather than a necessary part of the process. But for sure, if you're prepared to invest a little more time up front, there's no reason not to run DDU.
