Running 1080p on 4k Monitor

Hi everyone,

I'm considering purchasing the new Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4K UHD Monitor, and am unsure about what would happen if I run 1080p or a bit higher for games given my current setup is not powerful enough for 4k. What kind of issues might I face?

Current setup:

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
SilverStone ST75F-P 750W PSU
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC 2GB Video Card
Intel i5 3570K
Samsug 840 Pro Series 256GB
Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

It should display the image, and software upconvert it within the TV so that all the pixels get some info.

I would expect the image to look soft, and with little benefit over a 1080p monitor.

What do you mean by soft? I'm not expecting any improvement I just want to be sure it is not any worse than 1080p, i.e. its not blurry or anything.

By soft, I mean that it is not going to be razor sharp like 4K. It won't be blurry, just no better than the native 1080p signal.

depends on the panel. it shouldn't be that annoying, though i think watching 1080p content on a 1440p seems a bit blurry compared to a 1080p native monitor.
