Running a main x16 gpu and a x1 gpu?

So, I want to setup dual monitors but wanted to use a lesser x1 gpu for multitasking so my main gpu won't have to split its power. Do you know if this is possible in a lga 1151 mobo or if I need any extra hardware?

Just run the second monitor off one card.
