[SOLVED] Running antivirus on a dual boot machine

Hi all,

In my ongoing prep to create a dual boot setup (Windows 7 and 10) in the relatively near future, I have a few questions regarding how antivirus works on such a setup:

  • Will I have to install two separate instances of AV software, with one per OS? Or will one installation be able to cover both?
  • If one installation could cover both, which OS should I install the AV on? Windows 7 or Windows 10?
I like to keep my systems relatively locked down, particularly on older OSes just to prevent any unnecessary risk so that's why I'm curious as to how this would work. I want both of my OS installations to be fully protected. I figure that, most likely, I'll have to run two separate installations but I'm not sure if that'd cause any conflicts for files that are accessed by both OSes. I'm guessing it wouldn't, since only one OS (and thus one instance of the AV) is running at a single point but I just wanted to be doubly sure.

Thanks in advance!
