The question is can i run two different GPU's without messing up my system. One is a Nvidia GTX 1080 TI and the one I'm trying to test is a Nvidia 8800gt. The purpose is solely seeing if the 8800gt will show up in the system. I'm not looking to actually use the second card. and I'm asking because removing and reinstalling the 1080ti is a pain. The scenario is the following.

I'm having a problem with a build for a friend. I've tried two graphics cards (both have been used before but were not tested before buying) on the mother board and neither show up anywhere i tried locating them and neither show display. I've already tried everything I've found to troubleshoot why it is not working. the only thing i have left is to test the GPU in another system.

The build for the friend is this incase anyone needs to know.
GPU- Nvidia 8800gt
Motherboard- Gigabyte ga-z270p-d3
Ram- 2x 4gb g.skill ripjaws v
2 tb HDD
unsure of CPU

Solution
Yes. You'll need the legacy driver installed for that card. The display will show whichever card it is connected to. So have that card connected to the monitor and the other card disconnected. Keep in mind that the 2nd PCIe x16 slot on that board is only x4 lanes, not x16. Won't make any difference in performance with the 8800GT, just something to remember.
