I tried my very best to shortly describe my situation in the title, but alas I can see that I failed into making it somewhat comprehensible. Hopefully you'll read the next bit.

Bought a DVI to HDMI. Turns out the HDMI is the wrong 'gender' to fit into my GPU, but LUCKILY it fits into the motherboard slot. Here comes the problem as you might've expected. Yes, I did some searching, and I enabled my internal graphics card. But no, it doesn't detect the screen still. Could this slot actually be fake and not do anything, or am I stupid and have done something wrong?

EDIT: Upon logging in on my PC, it DID say that the display driver failed to install. Is that the display driver for my motherboard? How do I install that if it is?

EDIT2: Fixed some mistakes

Solution
Okay so your CPU has integrated graphics and your motherboard supports that as well. After reading your edit, it sure sounds like the driver (or lack thereof!) is the prime suspect.

So what you will need is to download the driver from this website https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B85M-E45

On the driver tab you'll need to select which operating system you are using, and the flavor (32-bit or 64-bit). From there you'll see the on-board video driver for download, at the bottom of the list. Download and install that driver then reboot.

Oh wow, it worked as easy as that! I've never encountered a technical problem that was fixed in just one day, even less in under 30 minutes!

Didn't even need to restart the PC for it to work
