Running Ethernet over 500ft?

I am trying to get internet down to my pool house and can run it through an existing pipe in the ground. I know the length that Ethernet is rated to run over about 100m at full speeds, however I am not looking for high speeds, i am just looking for something to run a wireless access point to stream music and load web pages. That being said since this is about 200ft over the recommended spec I would probably go with cat 6 just so I can get the fastest speeds possible since there will be such a big loss. So Could I run cat 6 500ft with speeds decent enough to do simple tasks, and is there anything that I could use to extend the range maybe like a poe injector or something? thanks

Yes, I did read it.

Over the distance spec, will it work? Completely unknown.
It might work great
It might work 'sort of'
It might not work at all

And the specific cable may impact. Not just Cat 6 vs Cat 5, but this individual cable.
One 'Cat 6' might work, another 'Cat 6' from a different supplier might not. And the only way to know is to try.

im not so sure what you are saying, I said that I was thinking of cat 6... maybe you should read the post rather than just the title

I think what USAFret is trying to tell you is that when you exceed the standard specs, you're into the "unpredictable results" category. E.g. you might get it working but with a lot of errors and error recovery attempts. Personally I like the WiFi approach if you have good line of site, as kanewolf suggested.
And of course you could also call your ISP and have them install an outlet in that pool house that would give you full supported Internet. That might actually be cheaper than buying 500 feet of CAT6 cable.

Good luck.
