[SOLVED] Running hot after new fans installed

So I built this computer a couple of years ago. Its always had 7 fans in it. the first fans were led and plugged into the power supply. I just put new fans in it, and now it is running super freaking hot. New fans are SP120 RGB Elite. They use the fan headers on the motherboard and came with a hub for the rgb headers. It has always ran a little warm, but now it is in the danger zone jumping from mid 80s to low 90s. I did change the thermal paste. The fans in the front 3 fans blow in and the top 3 fans and rear fan blow out. Even on full speed the system overheats and turns off. Cant for the life of me figure out what is going on here. I have an 800 watt power supply so i should be getting enough power to all of them. Wondering if i should buy some power adapters and hook straight to power supply. You are all over the place. Case fans provide air into and out of the case, thats all. As long as they are spinning as they should, according to whatever fan curve is set for them, then they are doing their job.

Has very little to do with cpu temps beyond that. Cpu temps will be more intuned to the repaste and the load on it.

And no, 47cfm at 1500rpm isn't that great, considering you'll mostly be running the fans at 70% or below and the curve is a logorythmic line, not a linear line, so at 70% speeds you'll be getting closer to 25cfm per fan.

Quieter, yes. Better quality, probably. Better performance? Mebe not. You got 3 fans at intake that generally move less air than 1 good 140mm. You got 3 at exhaust doing the same thing.

I guess I was all over the place. So I looked at the old fans. Not sure of the CFU there, but they are 1600 RPM which really wasn't enough. I am thinking about going ahead with the water cooling I initially wanted. Thanks for pointing that out. Best Buy assured me these were better than what I had.

Please list full specs of your system.

You have a case with closed front. It basically has no air intake.
Lots of flashy RGB but no cooling performance.

I'd suggest getting a new case with mesh front. And maybe getting a better cpu cooler - you have plenty space in there.

The case does have slotted sides and bottom to the front so it pulls air from there. Its also pretty cool at all times in the room. Asus rog strix b550f system board. ryzen 7, 3.8 cpu. (not over clocked) 16gb ram and 1080ti video. 3 tb hdd. 800 watt power supply. the case can be water or fans. the old fans are what came with the case. I just got tired of the green and one had went out so i got those rgb ones. id like to stick with the rgb, but im thinking the other guy might be right about not being strong enough. even though best buy said these are better i saw they are not when i looked up the old ones. (dc fan 12025) the old ones were keeping it running high 70s low 80s. I really do want to water cool, but looking at the prices I just cant afford to do all that right now. id like to try to just find some better fans for now. Maybe build a nice water cooled one with newer internals later on after i save for a while. 😁

How much heat is actually coming out of the case at the exhausts?

There are fans that'll move 50+ cfm at 1000rpm. Rpm by itself isn't a useful number, it's only relevance is in relation to its use. Fans at 1000rpm are generally quieter than fans at 2000rpm. If a 1k rpm fan can move 50cfm, and a 2k rpm fan moves 50cfm, obviously the 1k fan is better, quieter, but in affect they are the same fan, they move the same amount of air at the same pwm %.

Contrary to popular education and beliefs, rgb does NOT improve performance, it usually has the exact opposite affect, being a detriment to actual performance. There's only so much room in a fan motor hub, and if half the space is taken up by rgb circuitry you'll obviously have a smaller and less effective motor vs the same fan without rgb.

Everybody assumes Noctua makes the best fans, and generally speaking, they do. But ask yourself WHY? The answer isn't difficult, they do not proscribe to the RGB fad, putting performance first and for many years looks (please, brown and tan is ugly) were not a consideration. The brown was not an added color, it was the result of the chemical makeup of the blades. To change the color meant changing the chemical, which affected performance.

In a nutshell, your fans may look good, but simply cannot move enough air through your case, which affects the case temps, which affects the cpu cooler/gpu cooler performance, resulting in higher temps than you'd like. Coupled with a stock cooler (albeit the best stock cooler in years) you get high temps.

Only thing that's going to help is improve airflow and improve cooling capacity. How ypu do that is upto you.

Your case has poor airflow, adding more fans isn’t going to help much. Additionally, more fans is not always better, if the fans start competing for available air you may end up with a situation where you just recirculate hot air inside the case. If you want cooler temperatures i would suggest a tower style air cooler and a positive pressure airflow/mesh front case.
