Hi

Hardware
yesterday I brought core i7-4790k, Mother Board, 32 GB RAM from Microcenter. Later on wiki I saw i7-5820k, compared that with 4790K saw it has 2 more cores and runs on DDR4. some sites say DDR4 will be 30% faster than DDR3. Price delta is $300.

Usage
I am planning to install Esx with OSx, windows7, 2 Linux Guest OS for Oracle Rac Cluster & its clustered applications. I want this setup to run 24X7.
Total Operating Systems : 4~5

Q.

1. As 5820k is released in Q3 2014. Should I expect any bugs hardware issues?
Is it safe to be on 5820k or more tested and stable version i7-4790k ?

2. Overclocking 5820K is compartively taking more risk than i7-4790k ?

3. I burnt my friend SSD trying to do same setup on AMD. How reliable are intel i7 cpu's for virtualization ? for 24X7 home setups ?. What Precautions should I take to avoid burning ?

Cost: $1200~1300

Thanks very much

Solution
Either CPU would be fione. X99 is expensive though. especially DDR4 ram

1. No bugs with X99

2. Overclocking is the same for each. Just sure you get a good mobo for it plus a custom cooler.

3. Setting up VM ware shouldn't burn out anything if it's done properly.

For $1200-$1300 I recomend just using Z97. X99 will take you quickly over that budget.

Thanks very much..

Custom cooler you mean cpu fan or liquid based cooler.
I got i7-4790k + Z97 Extreme + 32 GB Corsair

i7-5820k is really exciting me. Below config is $1074.57
adding Internal HDD and SD will take me little above $1300

As I dont use much of graphics. I got low profile video card.

Intel Core i7-5820k 3.3 GHz LGA 2011 V3 Tray Proc
Crucial 32GB 4 x 8GB DDR4-2133 PC4-17000) C15 Desk
ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-3 ATX Intel Motherboard
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Universal CPU Cooler
HIS Radeon R7 240 iCooler Boost Clock 2GB DDR3 PCIe Video Card

i7-5820k related components will allow me to jump to 64 GB RAM & future cpu upgrades. Looks like I should not think if I go little above my budget.
