Running integrated AND dedicated graphics card.

Hello guys,
here is my situation...

I am building a new PC, my motherboard has an integrated card and i'm buying a GTX970. What i want to do is hook up a smaller screen to the integrated card so i can monitor temps while gaming, and actually play with the dedicated card. Is that possible? Or should i just connect both to the GTX970, if so, will that affect performance?
