Question Running into trouble after a couple upgrades: start a game and blackout system crash, with fans and lights running full steam

Recently I upgraded to the Ryzen 5900x, .. so naturally, first I flashed the newest bios, which seemingly went off without a hitch..

installed the

So naturally got it home, tinkered with it and got it to post.... all cool so far.

Surf the web, etc all good, keep an eye on heat, so far nothing.

Then I load up a game, any game, and within a minute the screen goes black, monitors shut down and fans run at full speed. lights still on.
Now a couple times in the recent past, just after startup my comp has shut down, and won't restart until I reset my power strip, so I call up my local guy, say I think it might be my PSU, and he says, yup sounds like your PSU is going bad.

Went down, bought a shiny new:

put it all back together, sounds great feels great, power up a game..... NOPE still blacking out, still no go...

now keep in mind my 2700x was handling these games fine, same memory same everything, only thing I have changed is my CPU, Cooler and PSU, and of course my bios.....

Can anyone offer me some suggestions?

I am not able to access your pcpartpicker PC specs, so I will just assume that you are able to put your Ryzen 2700X back and see if you still get black screens. If not, then RMA the 5900X and get a replacement.

Apologies, I updated my build so it was no longer private.

I reseated ... everything, cleaned and re-applied paste to the new chip. Tried again, and the new chip failed... so I reinstalled the old 2700x loaded up my most heavy game and gave it a go. Worked like a charm, cool as a cucumber.

So as you suggested took the 5900x back and got it replaced (this is the only place in the world where I buy a warranty) put the new 5900x into my box tonight, and it will play normal run of the mill games, but when I put it to the real test, like an ultra modded skyrim, it shuts down to black (yes the new one) just like the other one did.... not sure what I am missing here.... right now will reflash my bios again, make sure I got a good flash on it.... but I am running out of ideas.

It seems like the first and the current 5900X might not be faulty afterall. If everything works perfectly with your 2700X whether it's idle or gaming, and the 5900X is fine during idle, but not on load, then the most likely culprit is your motherboards' VRM not being able to handle the 5900X as it has 12 cores and 24 threads. Try stressing your 5900X with Cinebench R23 and see if you get the same results. You could also try running Heaven benchmark separately to rule out any GPU issues.

Do note that the Tech YouTuber in the video is using an upgraded version of your motherboard. It looks like you will have to upgrade your motherboard to either an X570 or a B550 with good VRM that has good power delivery phases to make the most out of your 5900X.
