as mentioned on title.. plan to fit a U.2 900p 280GB/480GB into a laptop (super thick laptop) but iirc laptop only got 5v rail sata power for those 2.5" SSDs/HDDs.
i know 3.5" HDD can't run off usb 2/3 because not only its 5v but USB2 only provides up to 0.5A while USB3 is 0.9A. but can 3.5" HDD run off 5v rail sata power? afaik sata can provide up to 4.5A and i honestly have no idea how it works when i look at sata chart theres 3.3v, 5v and 12v.. is it 1.5A per voltage value?
480GB 900p maxes at around 16w, with intel specification 12v thats around 1.333Amps. if I do 5v then to get 16w will need 3.2Amps.. or is that not how it works. pls help!
