Running or installing Windows XP Pro on an Asus H81M-Plus motherboard

I attempted to run Windows XP Pro on the Asus H81M-Plus. In the BIOS (as recommended on page 2-38 of the manual), I went into Advanced Mode and scrolled down to "Secure Boot" selecting the operating mode as [Other OS] "Get the optimized function when booting on Windows non-UEFI mode, Windows Vista/XP , or other Microsoft Secure Boot non-compliant OS. The booting got only as far as the Windows Splash screen before hanging up. When I tried to install Windows XP Pro SP3 it only got as far as STOP error:0x0000007B. Help

But don't lose hope this might be another solution:
1) One or more of the RAM Sticks that are installed on your computer may be faulty.
2) Or The RAM configuration is doesn't work with Windows XP.

To fix this you may reinstall or change the RAM.

Modern Hard Disk Controllers especially SATA in AHCI mode are not supported by XP drivers on XP CD
Modern PC's do not have floppy disk drive to enable you to add driver by pressing F6 during bootup from XP CD and supplying driver

Have you tried turning off SATA AHCI mode
change to ATA compatible (In BIOS settings)

You are likely to have problems with finding other XP drivers for this motherboard and XP is now officially obsolete .

Intel Series 8 chipset motherboards don't have any Windows XP support.

I was able to install Windows XP Professional on ASUS H81M-PLUS after the following changes in BIOS:
Advanced Mode - Advanced SATA Configuration - SATA Mode Selection:
AHCI --> IDE
Advanced Mode - Boot - Setting Mode - Secure Boot - OS Type:
Windows UEFI --> Other OS
(without producing special modified installation disk, what would be violation of EULA)

However:
1) Standby button doesn't work (is shaded out). Control Panel .. Display Options ... Power schemes don't work correctly too - monitor doesn't turn off automatically after requested time, and hard drive seems to not shutting down.
2) There is no video driver for Intel HD Graphics 4200 for Windows XP probably. XP works on its VGA driver, but it's icon is yellow in Device Manager (something is wrong). But colors look well (i.e. in YouTube).
And Google Earth can run only under Open GL, but not DirectX. Version 6.2.2.6613, because 7 and further don't cooperate with Windows XP, at least in some computer configurations.
Perhaps 1 is caused by 2. (?)
3) Some drivers must be downloaded from the internet and installed separately later
- LAN (Realtek® 8111G) and audio (Realtek® ALC887) drivers from the Realtek website
- USB 3.0 (Asmedia 104x) driver for two ports at the back

Does anybody know any driver for Windows XP for Intel HD Graphics 4200 ? Probably such thing does not exist, but I post this question just in case.
And how to activate standby button ...

The solution to the installation problem is the BIOS default setting is for AHCI compliant operating systems.

in advanced mode find the sata settings on that page you can turn of the AHCI Xp will then install.
Once installed it runs like a dog, however go to the realtek website and locate the generic drivers for the NIC it is a 8111G Gigabit PCIE controller. Download and install that and you can get internet working, The driver disk that came with the motherboard can be used for the rest of the drivers after you manually locate and install the chipset driver for windows 7 (it works) then after a reboot you can used device manager to update the drivers for all item with a yellow spot bu mak sure it is a manual search & point it a the root of the cd & tick to search al subdirectories (this process takes alot of time) once done you will only have one item that a driver is not found for this is the AMD AOO interface it seem to not matter. at this point you will be successfully running xp on the H81M-Plus Board the same process works for the A88XM-A Asus Board
