I bought a pair of crucial ballistix tactical tracer ram (2 x 4GB 1866MHz CL9). but have been unsuccessful at getting the system to boot with the ram running at 1866MHz. At most i can get it running at 1600MHz @CL9 but any further than that will produce a blank screen after a restart from bios.

My Specs are a s follows:
i5 3550
Asus P8H77-M
2x 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracers
Gigabyte R9 270x
Win 7

What I've done:
gone in to bios enables XMP profiling
selected profile 1 (the only one available) set the memory clock to 1866 (i've also tried 1800 as well)
save and restarted (this how ever caused a blank screen)

Is ram at that frequency not supported by the i5 3550? do i need the K version?

Thanks in Advance.

For your motherboard:
Memory Standard
DDR3 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600/1333

While 1866 is supported, apparently it requires an ram controller overclock.

Have you increased your ram voltage (from 1.5v to 1.55, 1.6 or 1.65? <take small steps here, as more volts = higher temps, and a greater chance of damage>)
