Rural internet service? I am using a hot spot (netgear MR1100 router) to receive internet to my Orbi 6 mesh network running many devices, cameras, wemo switches, etc. This is slow so I am thinking about Hughsnet, Starlink, etc. Are there problems connecting an Orbi system to a satellite system?

There may be problems - many factors involved. More information is needed.

What speed(s) are you measuring: where and how?

"Many devices" : are you able to be more specific about the types of devices? All wireless. Nothing wired?

Maybe post a simple sketch showing the network environment without revealing any personally identifying information. Or at least more description about the working network environment.

Point being that if there is some issue within the Orbi 6 mesh system then a satellite system may not make much, if any, difference.

Can the slowness be associated with the presence or absence of some particular network device? Or the speed is acceptable with X number of devices but becomes slower with X+1 number of devices.

Any neighbors using local satellite services? Chat with the neighbors to get a sense of the speeds that they actually get versus the contractual speeds.

How fast do you get if you connect directly to the netgear compared to how fast do you get when you connect though the orbi system.

If there is some difference then you might have some issue with how you setup the orbi.

The orbi system should work with satellite. Hugenet has caps on the bandwidth and high latency. It also is not that fast I think they only say they get 25mbps and I am not sure if that is a real number.
Starlink still has large gaps in their coverage areas, there might still be fairly long wait times for equipment. If you can get it starlink is going to be a better option.

Starlink will be great when it's fully built in another 2-3 years. Right now, it's good if you live in an area with high coverage and there are long waits times on equipment. But starlink will be the thing to get moving forward if you have no real options for internet. I would get on the Starlink waiting list asap.
