I live in the sticks. It's beautiful. And the internet options suck. There is no wired internet available, and because I'm at the end of the line there never will be. I currently have a WISP, which, while providing unlimited data, has terrible speeds. It doesn't even provide the speeds it advertises. I get less than 2 Mb/s, often 0.5Mb/s or less.

I have done much research, but in this instance google has not been my friend. I am not looking for satellite, as all the plans that I have found have limited data at high prices. I'm Looking for a lower cost plan with unlimited data, the kind of plan you would use for all the internet a modern household uses. I actually live fairly close to town (Madison, WI) and near the interstate. So I'm looking at 4G LTE.

Does anyone have any experience with this? These are my specific questions:

1. Does anyone have any experience with LTE plans used in this way? Any suggestions?

2. I would like to use my old router (LInksys WRT610N V2) with an LTE modem. Are there modems that connect via ethernet cable to a router? The other option would be 3rd party firmware and possibly connecting a modem to the USB port.

3. Does anyone have any experience with LTE plans used in this way? Any suggestions?

4. Any suggestions RE external antennas?

5. Is there a better website/forum for this subject?

As I said, google searches mostly refer me to sites either selling plans by the big companies or to discussions of mobile hotspots, which typically are temporary or use limited data. It's so hard to find anything catering to my situation. I'm not afraid to invest in some equipment, although I'd like to keep the price reasonable. If I'm missing another option please make a suggestion. I'd be grateful for any feedback or suggestions anyone may have. Thanks in advance!

First, many thanks for your replys.

I actually get good cell strength from all the major carriers because I live next to the interstate, and with an external antenna I guess you can get a solid signal for several miles or more.

I've seen that website, that guy has a good setup, but Verizon no longer offers unlimited data plans.

Two great replies so far, please keep them coming!

you can get Verizon plans on eBay, but its $150 a month and your leasing the line.

this company offers unlimited data through all the major carriers, each one is different prices, Verizon the most expensive ($250) and sprint the cheapest ($100)

these are a bit expensive to me, because im paying $90 for 200 mbps down and 10 up lol
