News Russia certifies homegrown Raspberry Pi-like computers for critical applications — Elbrus ES3 already used in nuclear facilities

Most likely the chips will be made in China with a high probability that SMIC makes them, they may even help advance them to a better process node. Another option might be India as they grow their chip manufacturing in country. Oil for chips trade.

I was going to ask what ISA these are using, but then I found it's indeed the funky VLIW-like flavor of other Elbrus CPUs we've seen before:

That mentions integrated graphics, but it's behind a paywall. According to this, it's a PowerVR GX6650:

That paper also mentions it being "planned for mass production in 2022 using 16 nm FinFET".

Finally, I was curious what was meant by the phrase "supports convenient programming of the "PLC-Elbrus" controllers using IEC-61131-3 standard languages." A quick web search suggests this is referring to:

  • Instruction List
  • Function Block Diagram
  • Structured Text
  • Sequential Function Chart

The standard applies to Programmable Logic Controllers, which are basically realtime controllers used for things like industrial automation.
