Ok I'm putting together my first gaming rig in a long time. There is alot of contradictory statements floating around about the Rx 400 series cards vs the gtx 1060 cards. I'm looking at picking one of these up come Christmas. So far I have my case (Cooler Master Elite 130), SSD (Kingston uv 400 120 GB) boot drive, Mobo ( asrock fatality z170 mini itx), and I'm ordering my ram ( mushkin ridge back 3000 mrhz 15 cas 15x15x15 35) tomorrow.

So correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding the gtx 1060 (3gb) is better then the Rx 470 (4 or 8gb) mainly due to the GPU of the 470 being weaker. From what I understand the 470 doesn't even push the full 4gb of ram thus making the 8gb version a con imo.

Rx 480 4gb have completely disappeared from what I have seen or they are priced over $230 USD witch to me makes the 1060 (6gb) at $250 USD a much more attractive buy since it out performs all the 400 series cards except in a few cases. So basically I should go with a 1060 either (3 GB) or (6 GB) depending if I want to save $50 or not btw is the performance difference worth the extra 3 GB of ram or not also is the 3gb going to be capable of VR.

For reference the game I want to play the most is Skyrim with heavy modding will these cards do that I know it's older but I've been waiting a long time to get back into pc gaming I miss mods so much.

I've decided on getting the gtx 1060 6gb wife said it was cool so im in the clear haha. Now I have to decide on a model and I definitely want to stay on the cheaper side. I really like the EVGA gtx 1060 SC single fan it has some of the highest base and bost clock speeds for the price point. The gigabyte windforce oc is nice to as well as the zotac mini. I would have liked two hdmi but thoughs are too expensive compared to these witch are all under $270 on Newegg. What are yalls suggestions?
