Hello guys!
My friend is about to build a new PC for himself, but we're having a hard time deciding what graphics card to buy. I've checked a lot of forums, but the answers were different, some said 6GB 1060, some said RX 470, etc...
I've also heard, that right now GTX 1060 (3GB) is better, but 3GB will be too low soon.
The games my friend'll mostly likely play: Star Wars Battlefront (the new one ofc), Battlefield 1, Witch III and AC Syndicate.
I know that both are good cards, and one's good at some things, while the other is good at other things, but I want a clear answer, which is better for these games.
(NOT IMPORTANT, but I'd be glad if you could also mention a brand (I'd say Evga/Sapphire))
Thanks

Solution

Understandable, the 1060 3gb is the best choice over the 470 4gb.
First: thanks for the fast answer. He's already maxed out his budget, so he can't afford the 6/8GB ones.
If you don't mind I'd wait a day or so before picking solution (Don't misunderstand me, I believe you, I'm just interested) to see others opinion

Agreed with above, the 3gb 1060 is the best card before moving to a 6gb 1060 or 8gb RX 480. If budget is exceeded, get the 1060 3gb with the highest clockrate that you can afford, they are all pretty similar, its mainly looks and different coolers. The EVGA SC version is probably one of the best for the money

A second hand 980 isn't also a bad idea if you can get it at a good price as it performs the same as a 6gb 1060

The 3gb barrier is broken on the 3gb 1060 on a lot of games, but it doesnt seem to hinder performance as much as you would think .

I dunno. There is no frametime graphs and no indication of stutter. When I had my 270x 2gb, some of the stutter and frame drops were crazy when around 1.9-2.1gb. Big reason I swapped it...realise 1060 is different league, but I still wouldn't be comfortable purchasing one.

The graphcs have the 0.1% low/minimum which shows the very minimum frame rate that was recorded.

Do you think that Vulkan has any future? I mean benchmarks show that AMD beats the **** out of NVidia in Vulkan (which is not surprising, same as NVidia kills AMD in PhysX)

Maybe, but there isn't THAT much difference. I hope it does, as I was able to go from decentish frames on Doom maxed, to locked 90 with everything maxed and nightmare textures. Whatever it does, its a massive step in the right direction to properly use hardware.

We will have to see,,,,,I wouldn't use it as a reason to buy AMD or NVidia cards however.

Vulkan all depends on the game publishers. Doom runs amazing with Vulkan but the reality is most folks still go with basic DX12. It will be used again I'm sure especially because its open source, but I wouldn't count on it becoming prolific in every game. Not with Nvidia having the market share it has.
