Both cards are at the exact same price in my country and I can't decide which one to buy. I have an X99 system and also an ultra wide monitor. I was thinking about the 3GB not being enough. PLEASE HELP!!

Solution
Wait for Cyber Monday. NewEgg had some killer deals last year only offered by them (free game and $35/off an ASUS GTX 970 was last year's score there).

How much more is the 6GB 1060 where you are? For long term, the 4GB 470 would be the better buy at the same price point just based on your "ultra wide" resolution, whatever that is. But in direct comparisons at 1080p, even the 3GB 1060 beats the 4GB 470. History has proven however that AMD GPUs remain stronger performers over time than Nvidia GPUs (and I'm an Nvidia fanboy). The 6GB 1060 is a steal for the price if you can swing the extra scratch to buy one. Especially since newer games like Dues Ex are requiring more GPU VRAM. Even at 1080p these days 3GB is going to be outdated real soon.

Not long term though. This is where the 470's 256-bit memory bus will be better (long term) than Nvidia's 192-bit memory bus 1060. Again, benchmarks in current games with older AMD GPUs compared to older Nvidia GPUs show it.

And this is becoming more evident in DX12 games and a good indicator of what the future may look like. As a long time Green Team fan and not owning an AMD product since an HD 4870, it pains me to say that. But the truth cannot be denied.

Here's an example with Warhammer. Note where the GTX 970 compares with the older generation 512-bit bus R9 290 (direct GTX 780 competitor which has a 384-bit bus, but a lower priced card by $100 when released in 2013).

Where I live, the 6 GB version it's almost 120 dollars more so I'm picky about the "worth it" thingy, I don't think it will or maybe it does because of the extra gigs and long term. 3 gigs it's becoming a bottleneck these days even at 1080p in some games. So maybe save some cash and get the full 6 GB version may be the best solution?

Holy CRAP! Here in the US it's only a $50(US) difference depending on model. Here's an example:

3GB MSI for $240 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137033
6GB MSI for $290 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127963

I would strongly recommend against buying a 3GB VRAM GPU these days if you plan on keeping it for a few years and want to play the latest games. Even 4GB cards are showing their age in more demanding games at 1080p like Dues Ex (today's Crysis in GPU destroying).
