Im getting a budget build and decided to go for the rx 480 as a good high/mid range gpu for 1080p gaming, anyway i heard that you could upgrade the 4gb version to 8gb and so far i havent seen the people upgrading it mention any requirements for example if you need a mobo with a certain chipset, the mobo im getting is a gigabyte s2h (cant remember the name exactly) or maybe if you need a custom cooler etc
Thanks for feedback :)

To my knowledge it has nothing to do with the motherboard or any other part but the gpu itself. Keep in mind that some factors must be met in order to do this. You have to find a good compatible bios, your card should definitely have 8 gigs of memory, there must be an exact same version of your card with 8gigs on the market and you should find that specific bios.

There are many risks in doing that mod. The risk doesn't really worth saving 30-40$. If anything goes wrong during the bios change you'll end up with a brick, that should probably break your warranty. Also there has been talk that these cards were from the first runs and that AMD has remedied the situation. So it might not even be possible anymore.

If you have ever tried to fit Bga packages to a circuit board.
Your going to need a decent re flow and bga package alignment kit.

It`s not something you can do on the cheap, I can confirm that.
Buy the time you bought a re flow table and Ir heater, Bga solder templates, and an alignment Jig.
Your looking at a good few hundred pounds at least for the cheapest models or kits you can buy.
Not to mention actually getting hold of the correct memory chips with the right specifications of them.

Then there is the prep and the time to physically solder the chips to the circuit board.
And the faults that can happen if you do not follow the right procedure.

Even if you sent the card with 4Gb on it, wanting to add another 4Gb of memory to it.
By a good known person with a BGA and SMD setup.

The cost would far out way buying the 8Gb equipped card out of the box Pcenthusiast16.

It`s more cost effective to buy a 8gb equipped card to start off with.

LOL. OP is talking about the reference 4gb 480s that seem to come with an identical PCB as the 8gb version, vram included.
