Nobody uses cards from years and years ago. I'm currently using an old 7950 because it still runs everything I want. Gamers upgrade their specs all the time. I wouldn't plan on a card lasting a long time. Buy what makes sense now. Even the 3GB 1060 outpaces the 480 most of the time. It's the card I'd probably buy if my 7950 dies.
I'm prejudiced for the RX480 8 GB card: all those shader units and all that vram for future proofing. Not to mention great native DX12 support. Better off for the next 3 - 4 years.
