I can't decide which one to get. It's either the:

MSI RX 480 8GB Gaming X $280
or
MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X $290

$10 price difference between the two
Any suggestions?

If you're using a 1080p 60hz monitor both cards will play games at max game settings with no problems.

I agree with renz496, do some personal investigation and see which card plays your favorite games the best.

If you want a dual gpu upgrade path, this is available thru crossfire with the rx480.

Future/new games which use Windows 10 and dx12 work better with the rx480.

Gpus Vram requirements keep going up (almost monthly). Shadow of Mordor at 1440P and ultra settings can consume 7GB Vram.

You're right, in benchmarks on directx 12 titles, they are usually the same or have a 5-10 fps difference over 60 fps

The extra 2 GB of VRAM is a bonus in the 480. I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider, and on max settings it consumed 6.5 GB of VRAM at 1920x1200. So there's that. Performance-wise there is practically nothing in it. Efficiency of the 1060 is better. It's really up to you.
