RX 480 via molex

Hi guys. Im going to buy RX 480 4GB GPU and right now i have GTX 650 connected via molex to 6pin reduction. Im aware that RX has 8 pin and looked up reduction molex to 8pin. Will that cause problems or im fine. My PSU is good,its 500w and reliable,its bit older,but i dont want to spend money for PSU if i dont need to, Thank you for the answers

It's never a good idea to use molex to power cards and a 500w without a 6+2 pin PCIE cable can't be very good quality.

if the reduction molex is those old IDE hard drive power cables naw man youre fine, and im pretty sure most graphic cards come with a molex cable but just incase ask your supplier

It is not recommended here at THF to use molex adapter cables for supplying auxiliary power to a graphics card.

It'll work but you might have cause to wish you hadn't done it - - could prove to be a false economy.

So it will work temporarily? If yes,thats good,im planing to buy Zen next year or so and then i would buy everything else. Now i need fast GPU refresh as GTX 650 is getting slower and slower.

huh didnt know about that, ive used molex cables for a while now and havent run into any problems, thanks for the info

If your psu lacks pci-e power connectors it should be replaced. Adapters(especially molex to pci-e) are almost always a bad idea.
