Ever since the RX 480 was announced, I was considering upgrading my rig with a budget in mind. I wanted other people's opinions on the matter on whether or not I should upgrade or keep my current setup. It would be interesting to have a discussion about this.

Current Spec:
i5 3570k (OC 4.1Ghz)
2x 7970
Corsair AX850w PSU
P8Z77-V-LK Mobo
1TB WD Hard drive
840 120 GB SSD

Well, only you can know if you need to upgrade or not. If this setup doesn't satisfy your needs, then some suggestions can be made. If i were you, i'd think about selling both GPUs and get a GTX 1070, a card which will not give you dual card hassles, will perform better/consistently overall and will do these for much less power PLUS probably less heat/sound. But yeah, could be discussed

Thanks for the reply! I'll definitely keep that option in mind.

I would wait and see how well the RX 490 performs, I'm guessing it would either perform maybe around 5 to 10% more than the 1070, or maybe either aomewhere around the 1080 either being a little lower or a little higher. That's just pure speculation though and I'm guessing the price to be around 300$ to 350$. So I would wait, also if your just 1080p gaming the RX 480 would be perfectly fine as its going to be able to play all games 60fps+ at 1080p, as well as most games 60fps+ at 1440p (It'll struggle on the most graphical games those at 1440p). That's at high settings though...

So yeah either wait and see how the RX 490 performs or get a RX 480. The reason I'm not recommending the GTX 1070 right now is because the RX 490 could easily be way more faster than the 1070 while being more cheaper. Hell, crossfiring 480s can get you close to a 1080 if not better.

We shouldn't expect a Polaris chip that performs on par with 1070, i'd expect the best Polaris would be a RX480X which would have a bit more juice than the vanilla. As we all know Polaris was never meant for high end, it's not designed with that in mind. RX490 class chips would come from Vega arch which will supposedly be launched at least 6 months later from now.

That is a wise plan. As of right now, I'm thinking making an upgrade sometime in September/ October so definitely waiting to see what AMD and Nvidia has to offer within that time frame.
