first both card live in different segment. 1660s in sub $250 GPU while 5700 is sub $350. it will depending on your budget. and don't expect price drop. you can expect discounts or deals but not price cut. even if AMD release RX5800 to the market the pricing most likely not going to be affected. after all AMD just release this new GPU to the market. the only way for 5700 series to drop in price officially is when nvidia release their next gen GPU sometime next year.

if you want RT support the best option...
Ok what if I said I was on a 400+ budget would I go for the rx 5700 after the realease of the rx 5800 so the price would drop and put it rigth in my budget. I’m looking to upgrade my cpu and gpu so I also want to know if the rx 5700 will be given ray tracing support?

Are you sure the RX 5700 is going to get a price decrease? It performs almost as good as the 2060S and is already much cheaper.

I don't think the RX 5700 will support Ray Tracing anytime soon as it's a Nvidia tech and is still pretty limited for games. It also takes quite a massive toll in performance compared to it being off.

If you want something that supports Ray Tracing and still allows for decent FPS I'd be looking at the 2060 as a minimum.

The 1660S and 5700 aren't even in the same class as each other. What exactly are you looking for?

And, you failed to give some particularly important info. What about your monitor?

  • Brand and exact model?
  • What is its resolution?
  • What is its refresh rate?
  • Does it have FreeSync, GSync, or neither?
    • And, if FreeSync, what's the FreeSync range?

if you want RT support the best option right now is to go with nvidia solution. period. even if 5700 end up supporting RT in form MS DXR the performance will be many times terrible than nvidia comparable GPU due to lack of dedicated RT cores inside AMD GPU.
