[SOLVED] RX 5700 XT - Anyone with Crossfire experience?

specs: ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) / Ryzen 5 3600 / 32GB RAM / GTX 1660 Ti

games played: Ark Survival & Overwatch 1440p 144Hz

Problem: 1660 Ti was fine when the display was 1440p 60Hz, but it can't cut it at 144Hz. I was thinking of upgrading to a used 1080 Ti at a cost of $425. Second problem, is I'd like the option of adding a second 1080 Ti down the line, but this motherboard doesn't support Nvidia SLI, only AMD CrossFire. The lowest-end board that supports SLI, that I would consider, is the Gigabyte Aorus Pro Wi-Fi at a cost of $250. Then it occurred to me that perhaps purchasing a single RX 5700 XT, might be a viable option, for the same cost but new. An added bonus would be this board would support CrossFire.

Caveat: Please do not respond to this thread if your opinion is that SLI or CrossFire are dead, or always result in poor SLI GPU utilization scaling. I've previously run both games with two 980 Ti's in SLI and scaling was great. I know that I'm seeking opinions, but I'd prefer them from people who have practical experience, and aren't just repeating other's unverified opinions. Thank you for your time.

The 5000 series doesn't support crossfire only multi GPU rendering and that is on a game to game basis completely reliant on developers to implement software to do it, which almost none do today since only a couple percent of computers still use multiple graphics cards.

And Multi GPU scaling in the past, even back in the 980ti which wasn't all that long ago it was implemented far more then even today, technology is in fact dwindling in both implementation and performance gains.

richiestang_78 Hello, and thank you for responding to my post. It honestly never occurred to me that the RX 5700 XT didn't support Crossfire, hence I failed to initially do a simple Google search to confirm. Now when I search, it appears that the AMD RX 5000 series does indeed support Crossfire, but only with DX12 and Vulkan API, but not with DX11 (and earlier) and OpenGL. Thank you for your response, as it's definitively led me to the conclusion that Crossfire of the RX 5700 XT is now useless to me. Thank you.

On a side note, I really like your rig's specs. In particular, I'm impressed with your: Noctua NH-D15 | EVGA SuperNova G3 550| Sapphire 5700XT Pulse. THE NH-D15 is a phenomenal cooler, that I look forward to implementing someday, especially the chromax.Black variant. The 550 watts of your GPU is impressive, because it showcases that you're very aware that a 750 watt PSU is overblown for your setup. Tons of people overbuy on PSU wattage, instead of putting the extra money towards a higher quality unit. I personally only own the 1,000 watt version of my PSU because I used to run two 980 Ti's in SLI, and I was fully aware that 850 would have been more than sufficient. I got it off NewEgg one day sale for $140, and I only bought it because I simply wanted it, and wanted to be in the 50% power consumption portion of the curve. If I were to buy a 5700XT, I would very likely only consider the Sapphire Pulse or the PowerColor Red Dragon. Very cool rig indeed.
