RX 580 4gb - How future-proof?

Hi there! I’m simply wondering if a 4gb version of the RX 580 is enough to last say.. until the end of 2019 without being obsolete in many AAA titles.

Hi. This would actually be a relatively good option. A 1060 3gb and an RX 580 4gb are both within 5 percent of each other and are around the same price. Either one would be alright. Some games and tasks (Like larger CAD assemblies or blender creations) would benefit from the extra gigabyte of Vram on the AMD card. And they're both very frequent.

Depends on your definition of obsolete. There will be something new out because there is always something new out. But would it still be relevant, yes, even older weaker gpus will still be able to play future games. Can you play all games on high then? You're probably looking at medium on the more intensive games. But the majority of games tend to not raise the bar fast because people don't upgrade often.

It really depends on your monitor's resolution, and the rest of your system's specs (CPU, RAM). If you have at least a good quad core CPU with 8GB RAM and you game at 1080p, this GPU is more than enough for the next 1-2 years. You may be able to keep it even longer but you'll probably have to lower the graphic detail settings in modern AAA games. However if you game at higher resolutions (1440p+) you may have to get an 8GB model. Good luck.

Oh, a quad core and 8gb of ram? I’m planning on a 6 core 12 thread Ryzen with 16 gb of ram. I should be good then.

actually am on the same subject for a month now, looks like some games need more than 4gb Vram when played Ultra textures, so they use Ram which is slower, same when the 3gb gtx1060 was enough for a while then its not anymore. especially when you try to keep your Rx for the next 2 years.

due to budget am still confused about Nitro+Rx 570 8gb and OC it to 1450Mhz or rx 580 4gb . for the same price
the Rx 570 8gb Nitro+ seems able to hit 1430-1450Mhz easy without touching voltage compaired to any Rx 580 1500Mhz maxed, thats 50Mhz difference.

Another alternative is the obvious one, the GTX 1060 6GB provided that you can find one at a similar price as the RX580. It has more VRAM and is more future proof in that department vs the RX 580 4GB. I don't think it's worth it stepping down to an RX570 8GB just for the VRAM alone.

Having said all that I think that none of those cards need more than 4GB because in reality these are all 1080p cards and that resolution doesn't need more VRAM. Yes you can load better textures but I don't think it makes a big difference in graphics quality. On the other hand higher resolution always provides better results but it also demands more powerful GPUs.

Finally AMD is going to release the RX 590 in this month which may affect RX 580 prices. So if you wait you may find an RX580 8GB at a better price.

RX 570 8gb MSI armor = 170€ ( lottery can be hot and loud )
RX 570 8gb Nitro+ = 195€ ( a solid Model )
Rx 580 4gb Nitro+ = 187€( best model )
Rx 580 8gb good model = 218€ ( cheapest good model is 219€ )

so the difference between rx 570 8gb and rx 580 8gb is 40€ thats 25%. am in a serious budget so am htinking about rx 570 MSI armor 170€ or the Rx580 4gb Nitro+ 187€ i can't go more.
