I have a problem that my rx 580 nitro + 4gb.

It work very well but it run as PCI x8 speed only

I detached my 580 and I found the cap was missing somehow.

I think this is the problem that my 580 ran as PCI x8 only.

other function work very well and smoothly likes a fire strike test and game etc..

Here is my question.

1. Can I fix this with add a new cap on missing capacitor C112 area??

2.If can, what SMD capactior would be fit correctly?

2. If not, It can work safe if there is no capacitior C112 area? I wonder it could damaged my 580 slowly to permanent death or This Capacitor defect can affect other parts badly directly or indirectly (motherboard, cpu, psu etc) bad

thanks.

Well, all bets are off in that case. There is no telling if that was something that was done as a modification for mining or not, or if the card was just abused. If you are very capable with electronics repair and resoldering techniques, and can get the specifications for the part that needs replaced, then it's possible you could replace that but there is no way to really know if there are other issues or not. It's probably a cheap repair if you know what you are doing or can take it to a repair shop to have it done, otherwise, I'd say you're better off to either just ride it as is until it dies or replace the whole card.

This is EXACTLY why I always tell people that buying used cards is a risk not worth taking. The warranty alone is...

Thanks you !!. I decide that I will use this card until it dead. I'm relieved that this defect only affect the graphic card itself. I'm just worried that this missing capacitor can damage PCI-E slot etc.

If it hasn't yet, then it probably won't. Just keep an eye out for any new unusual behaviors. I'd probably also try doing a clean install of the drivers AND try reseating the graphics card. Sometimes that's all it takes AND I've seen small parts that were missing on certain boards by intent, as it might have been a circuit used on a different model that used the same PCB and wasn't used on yours. You never know. Usually if something falls off, everything quits working, but not always.
