I'm planning on building a new PC soon, but I'm unsure which graphics card I should go for. I don't play many modern day games, but when I do I'm looking to run them on mid/high settings on 1080p with a stable framerate. I was thinking of getting a RX 580, since I'll only be gaming at 1080 @ 60hz and don't plan on upgrading my monitor until this one has serious issues. Should I stick to the RX 580 or go for a better GPU?

The 1060 is about max for @95% of 1080p games. The 580/1070 is closer to 98% of 1080p and getting into the 1080p/144Hz or 1440p/60Hz area. The 1070ti is better at either, 99% of 1080p/60Hz and starting out the 1440p/144Hz area. The 1080 is well into the 1440p/144Hz games 99.8% of 1080p/60Hz and starting out in 4k. The 1080ti is 99.9% of 1080p/60Hz, vast majority of anything less than 4k and covers the most in 4k. It's only beat by sli. Dunno about the 20 series cards yet, no accurate benchmarks only a lot of supposition.

As to how long any card will last, that not easy to say as games keep getting more intense, but if you find a game you enjoy and play it for several years, nothing is going to change, you'll be as happy on day 1000 as...

The Rx580 8Gb will be fine, as will a gtx1060 6gb for 1080p/60Hz. A gtx1070/ti if planning on newest and/or upcoming future releases, but with nvidia new gpus hitting right now, it'll be a price war between 10 series cards and the 20 series cards of comparable performance.

I agree. Both, the RX580 and the GTX1060 will fullfill all what you want right now. But if you can get a good price on a 1070 or 1070ti, why not. You will have a little headroom down the room for more modern games or if you decide to use a QHD monitor in the future.

Alright I might just end up getting the RX 580, but If I was to buy a higher end graphics card should I just go for a 1080? The 1070 is $390, the 1070 Ti is $410, and the 1080 is $460. And if I was to buy the 1080 how many more years do you think it'll last in comparison to the RX 580?
