So me and my friend are playing far cry 5 together and I noticed that my game is not smooth at all, so I told him to turn on the FPS counter and his fps is always around 60-80 On the same settings as mine (all maxed out with HD textures and motion blur off) and Im getting low 60s and sometimes even 50s. Im using a 1080p 144Hz display however I am getting a 1440p 144hz display... yes I know that 1080ti is overkil for 1080p but I still find it absurd how it gets beaten by my friends RX 580. He is using the Ryzen 5 2600 at 4Ghz and Im currently using a Ryzen 7 1700x at 3.9Ghz. In other games I dont get this issue, for examplein witcher 3 I never dip below 100FPS on all UBER settings.

Solution
Okay I understand that the 1080Ti is bottlenecked but does it really mean that even an rx 580 would literally outperform it just because its not bottlenecked by my friends ryzen 2600? It seems really strange to me. The scaling was only at 1 but even when i put it at 4x with dsr upscaled to 4K the gpu still hovers at about 60%-70% usage in this game.. The witcher puts this gpu at 100% usage even at 1080p.

At 1080P yes it will bottleneck it, there is no way around it, nothing AMD makes will keep up with a GTX 1080Ti at 1080P across the board.

Especially in the more CPU demanding games so the CPU gets hit with both trying to keep up with the high frame rates the GPU can push and the CPU dependent game at the same time.

Even with...

Well according to benchmarks the 1080 ti should have nearly double the framerate of a 580 at ultra 1080p if it is being fully utilized. So thats obviously not normal. CPU and GPU usage when playing? The fact that the GPU performs well in other games puzzles me, not sure what could cause that.

My GPU load is always between 50-60% in far cry 5 according to GPU-Z, I just did a run with rivia tuner overlay to see the usage and fps, and at the start the fps was almost twice as much as my friends as you have said said however as we continued playing my fps dropped to 60s while his stayed at around 70. I've even dropped the settings to high and I was getting like 3 fps less than him anyways (we were looking at the same exact spots) At certain times my fps would even drop to 40s (45-48) while his stayed in the 60s. The temperatures of my GPU never goes over 70 °C , in fact its always between 55-65 °C. I have played other games like shadow of the tomb raider, gta 5 and some VR games but Im not getting this issue, its just far cry 5. I have also done some 3DMark benchmark runs but everything was alright, my scores were on par with what others were getting with the same specs and oc.

Sounds like a the problem is isolated to 1 game. Try reinstalling the game and make sure it's fully patched, you may also want to try a different driver revision.
I would reinstall the game but Im afraid that it will make me and my friend loose the campaign progress and we are very far in.(Im hosting the campaign so the progress is saved on me). I will try rolling back the gpu drivers though and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well ,its an AMD so , it has hights to overclock and do fast ,however RX is AMD/ RAdeonz so it will heat up fast, needs huge cooling for hours of gaming, and it is Rx , right ? not RTX

There is no RTX 580 so yes he is using an RX 580 (8GB) even a heavily overclocked and watercooled RX 580 should not come close to a stock 1080Ti at all... Especially with the fact that he is running his at stock with no OC at all.

So i have rolled back to older drivers but none of them made a difference, I made sure the game was fully patched, verified the integrity of files but that didn't change anything. I'll reinstall the game when I finish the campaign with my friend.

Okay I reinstalled the game, same issue persists... I have no idea what to do anymore its just that one game and nobody seems to know how to fix it :(

Can ya list your complete system plz.

Is Nvidia CP left default settings besides power and vsync left application control?

Are you using Geforce Experience to optimise?

Have you tried high performance settings in Windows?

What other games are performing good?

Complete system:
CPU: Ryzen 7 1700X @3.9GHz
GPU: MSI GTX 1080Ti GAMING X
CPU cooler: Be Quiet! Silent Loop 240mm AIO Liquid Cooler
PSU: EVGA 750 GQ 80+ GOLD
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) @3200 MHz
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3
Storage: WD Blue 1TB x2
OS Drive: ADATA 128GB XPG SX6000 M.2 SSD
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Nvidia CP settings are left at default however I did try using the 'Prefer maximum performance' setting and it did not change anything.
I never use Geforce experience to optimise, I just change the settings inside of the game myself.
I tried high performance mode in windows but it was the same as if I was using the balanced mode.
Literally every other game that I play performs very well apart from far cry 5...List of those games:
witcher 3
Shadow of the tomb raider
GTA 5
conan exiles
Rise of the tomb raider
vermintide 2
The forest
The Division
Apex
A Way Out
NFS payback
BF1

VR Games:
The Forest VR
Pavlov VR
VR chat

and then there are games like CS:GO but I'm not gonna list them for obvious reasons.

The 1700X will bottleneck a GTX 1080Ti at 1080P, AMD doesn't have a CPU that won't bottleneck a GTX 1080TI at 1080P.

GF experience will upgrade the screen resolution automatically if optimized so check that also.

Make sure it's on 1, not 1.3.

Even with DSR it's still 1080P technically.

With a 1440P monitor it would do better.

Okay ill just get a 1440p monitor in this case, if you have any recommendations for a 144hz 1440p monitor in the 3-400£ range I would be glad if you could let me know.

One of these two are what I could find in your range.
