Question rx 580 overheating issue

Hi so i have a rx 580. with the latest amd drivers. I have replaced the thermal paste on it and it idles at a good 25-30. when gaming (60fps capped) its 55-60c on avg temp. now the issue is when i uncap fps. so the fps will shoot to about 100-120fps. and the temps will rise to 90c-higher quickly. So im leaving it on 60fps capped right now.

I havent had this issue before so im not sure whats wrong with it.

Try testing with the side panel removed from your case. This prevents the possibility of inadequate airflow from affecting GPU temps.

Have a read through this undervolting guide using AMD WattMan I put together.

I like to use GPUz to monitor GPU stats.

As an FYI, here's some points along the curve that I've generally found stable for most cards.

1000MHz = 890mV
1100MHz = 910mV
1200MHz = 940mV (this 940mV is typically an inflection point on the curve, it gets steeper above this value. Notice that values below this are ~25mV/100MHz and values above are 100mV/100MHz)
1300MHz = 1030mV
1400MHz = 1150mV

oh sorry i forgot to mention that this was done on an open air testbench. so airflow wasnt really a problem or anything. and the rise of temp was kinda not normal. It went from the normal 55-60c all the way to 90c in a matter of like ~5-10secs after uncapping fps.

Ive also thought of undervolting (after a couple more tests). I just find it weird that the card seems to be working perfect. (Ive ran it through multiple benchmarks; superposition, firestrike) without any problems with 65c peak temps.

but once i uncap fps on easy to run games like apex legends. (even in just lobby) once the fps starts rising the temp spikes really fast. But undervolting it might be a way to fix this problem.

You may want to double check that all the heatsink screws are nice and tight. Also how much thermal paste did you use (about half the size of a grain of rice is the correct amount)

Yeah its done right. screws are nice and tight and thermal paste is right amount. + if something was off i would assume the idle temps to be higher right. thats why im just so confused. Everything looks good aside from the fact that it just overheats once fps is uncapped.
