rx 580 vs gtx 1060

Solution
well power consumption is kinda big deal when you are comparing those 2 cards :
thanks to consuming less power gtx 1060 runs cooler , quieter and has very similar performance .
rx 580 8gb is maybe like 3-5% faster (sometimes not even that , depending on the game in question)

gtx 1060 6gb wins in my book .

I have to disagree. The difference in temperature heavily depends on the cooler you have on it. For example my Sapphire Nitro + rx 580 while OC runs at 50-60C(with stock fan curve)
For games the 580 is the faster card and considering that Nvidia stops updating the drivers for older cards its much more future proof. If they are similarly priced buy the 580 but otherwise get the cheaper one.

let me put it this way :
if you have two cars for the same price :
with similar comfort level , similar interior , similar acceleration and top speed , similar everything ...
and one of them consumes 6 liters of gas and the other consumes 9 for every 100 kilometers :
which one of them would you buy ?!

Future proof isn't a valid point. In the near future, both the 580 and the 1060 will be obsolete. While the 580 may be slightly better, most people will not be using it. The 580 also uses a lot more power which is never a good thing.

depends on the game really
they are trading blows game for game
but overall rx 580 8gb comes out very slightly on top .
it does not justify its very high power consumtion though .
i would get gtx 1060 6gb over rx 580 for the same or similar price any day of the week .

The difference between the rx 580 and the 1060 is same as rx 480 and 1060, roughly 5%. That comparison has almost nothing to do with this one, gas is much more expensive than electricity. The electicity bill will be unnoticiably higher with the amd card and the only problem is that you would need a psu with higher wattage.
Also being more future proof is something to take notice of, and some people might still be using that card, my friend was using his old gtx 480 till the 1060 came out.
