Hi,
So I'm aiming towards the 6700xt pulse from sapphire at the end of December. I know that's a long way but I always want to know which path I wanna take.
Specs now are:
i7 6700 non k (2015)
Z170 gaming a msi (2015)
16gb ram ddr4 2100 speed (2015)
Arctic cooler 34r
1tb, ssd (for games) (2022), spare 1,5tb hdd (2012 but not in use anymore), 240gb ssd (for windows) (2015)
XFX rx590 8gb VRAM (downvolted) (2018)
Corsair rmx 750w 2021 (2022)
Fractal design meshify 2 (2022)
Display: LG 24GM79G 24inch 1080p 144hz (2019)

The goal here is to survive for as long as possible with everything. I'm atalking about 5+ years for my graphics card. I still have to upgrade the cpu and motherboard and ram and SSD. I'm aiming for 7600 and b650 and DDR5 ram 5600 mhz so that I can survive 10+ years for these. (This is theoretically. I do hope it does survive for that long but you never know with hardware, it can always fail...). I might also want to change displays to a 1440p 144hz display.
Now I'm getting the news that the 7700xt is on it's way. As I understand it, its performance will be a bit better then the 6700xt, but logically, the 6700xt will cost way less then the 7700xt. The 6700xt has the same GDDR6 then the 7700xt and also will have FSR3.

Questions now are: 1) Which one should I take if I want it to survive for as long as possible?
2) I'm seeing that the FSR3 will be available for 5000, 6000 and 7000 cards. I couldn't find any 4000 or 3000 cards or something. How does that work? Will for instance FSR4 also work on the 6700xt? Or will I need a 7700xt to survive longer?

Will be super hard knowing the next gen is coming soon and if you get 6700xt then you might regret it when new one come out because you might have 2nd thoughts. But going with higher GPU is not really good idea when your CPU only has 4 cores and 8 threads also in next two years your cpu will reach 10 years old. I would say save up and go for new upgrade on cpu and motherboard and then to gpu

The cpu upgrade is already the plan. I just wanted to know now with the 7700xt on its way if its worth buying the 7700xt or by then the way cheaper 6700xt?
I will never regret the upgrades since the upgrades will be BIG. Not as long as I otherwise would miss out on something only the 7700xt will have

kinda speculation in a way by December the 6700xt may be out of stock everywhere ..

remember we are talking about a OLD card now honestly id aim for the 7800xt and save some extra money and budget for the 7800xt by December the 7700xt may have dropped in price and you could have changed your mind !!

7000 serie does have AI accelerators, 6000 serie does not, what does it mean now, nothing, but in future it might be a thing

but dunno about how long is your "long term" future, by the time it hits games, gpu might be weak already

So in other words, if I can (I might not be able to out of budget reasons but if I can), go with the newest ones. I gotcha! The 7800xt is overkill for my system. Not needed as I might still be on budget. So 7700xt it is if I can afford it, otherwise the 6700xt.

the 6700xt is a good card i have one myself but its and old card im not saying you wont find one new in December but you may find it hard ..

Alot of hate over the over priced cards so people are looking back at the older AMD cards for better Vram and cheaper prices .

The 7700xt is brand spanking new .. how it stacks up against the 6700xt who knows until we see some reviews but i would assume even if by a little it should be better in RT performance !!

Another options is building systems is always about upgrading if you do go the 7800xt yes a bit much for the i7 6700 ..
maybe later next year you look at a b660 with a 12600k some ddr4 and you have the makings of a better system over time !! in 1440p and 4k gaming the cpu's really does very little even 1080p to a degree depending on the game uses little most is routed to the GPU !!

I was thinking about new architecture, new things like that AI thing that @kerberos_20 was talking about, about the 7700xt, which in the end would actually help me to go 5+ years. That's why I was talking about the 7700xt. So I'll see for myself in december whats in my best intrest, if I can, I will get the 7700xt, if I don't then the 6700xt will do!
