so im upgrading my pc at the start of next month and i solely use it for gaming. i game at 1080p and play games like fallout4, battlefield, call of duty. i was going up upgrade to a rx 480 8gb but i now have some extra cash and i can afford a gtx 1070 but i wasn't sure if that would be overkill at 1080p.my current pc is, i5 4690k @ 4ghz, 16gb 1600mhz kingston savage red, gigabyte z97p-d3 board, 1tb seagate barracuda hdd, cooler master b 700w 80+ psu and a gtx 690 4gb.
the 690 still copes really well but i want a card to replace it with while i have spare cash and something to future proof me for upcoming titles for the next year or so.
i always had my eyes set on the rx480 8gb for its price and performance but now i have extra cash im stuck what to do....help...!

back in 2014 some people thinking that 970 is overkill for 1080p. but after two years that's no longer the case. game also get more and more demanding. just look at the latest Dues EX. it is quite demanding.

you dont think the 1070 is overkill at 1080p, its just its over £100 difference between the cards

If your monitor has a 144Hz refresh rate, then yes, it's going to be worth it to buy the GTX 1070.

If it doesn't, then the extra performance won't even be visible, as the RX 480 is more than sufficient to get you 60+ FPS @ 1080p. And you could use the extra cash to get a 250GB SSD for your system.
