I'm Getting a Couple RX 480s from my friend because he is upgrading to the 580s, and i am getting a really good deal on them, but i realized that my PSU doesn't have 8pin, nor 6+2. Wen't through allot of post and i heard you can, you shouldn't, your good etc and it all dependent on the hardware,
I feel Like I would be fine as long as i use dual 6 pin to 8pin, for each card, I might be a little concerned with my motherboard, but i feel like my PSU is up to the task, and im seeking soem 2nd opinions on weather i should just upgrade it or be fine with the adapters,

Solution
Hey Thanks for the little in depth there, much better than what i would usually find, I will have to open up the power supply for myself, to see whats what, it has been about 2 years sense i dusted it out so it due for it anyways, All my drives 3 of em, are powered off one line from my PSU, If my 8pin has its own rail i might just get a 8 pin CPU/Mobo adapter to pcie, ill have to do some research on how well those work, kinda sucks working on a really small budget, but hopefully i will luck out and be alright, Thanks again for the info
Depending on power distribution I would say (and could not find anything on that matter). If each pair of PCIe plugs gets its own 12V line, then it could work - of course usual rant for using adapters goes here, but at least 2x6 to 8 pin is least dangerous kind of them. But I guess PCIe plugs share 12V lines with peripherals connectors, so it gets tough here if you use more then 2 drives/whatever connected to sata/molex (and even if you use just 2, they can get both lined with one GPU, which is not good). Most likely 12V power distribution for this PSU would be:
12V1: 24 pin and 4 pin
12V2: 8 pin
12V3: 2x6 pin and some peripherals
12V4: 2x6 pin and rest of peripherals
I think it can be tough one.
