Hi, I've upgraded my gpu and my PC won't power on, I suspect inadequate psu. It's Rx 480 8gb Red Devil, Msi 970 gaming board, 16gb ddr3 ram, fx4130 cpu, only a cheap 500w psu with no 8 pin pcie plug, only adapters, if I get a corsair modular psu with all correct 8 pin fittings will that help? Thanks

That is without a doubt your problem, and yes getting a proper PSU will almost certainly solve the issue.

Here is a perfect Corsair model for your rig. It includes all the headers you need, is currently on sale at a great value, and includes high-quailty parts that should last your rig for a good many years:

Power Supply: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $49.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Thanks, I'm quite new to building pcs it's brought about by my son, he loves PC gaming, I have already ordered that psu as I convinced myself that's what it was, thanks

I also got a psu for a build, the first system I placed it in turned on the whole system with the main switch, placed in my test PC and kept powering off, I guess a firecracker?

Perhaps, that kind of power cycling can be caused by a great many things, a bad PSU included. It's often difficult to speculate on the cause without systematic diagnosis of each part of a build. If adapters were being used from the PSU then it would certainly be a high suspect. We don't recommend using PSU adapters as it very rarely ends well.

There were no adapters that time, an 850 watt psu onto an 990fxa ud5 rev 3 board, fx 9590 and corsair water cooling, it wrecked my he'd, windows could not be fixed, oh well, trial and error, lol,
