Can't decide whether to go for 580 or 1060. A lot of opinions online.

My current build:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 1600 (bought)
Motherboard: Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 mATX (bought)
RAM: any 2x16GB DDR4 sticks with 2400-2666Mhz (not bought)
PSU: EVGA 600W (bought)

I am planning to use my future PC mainly for video editing and 1080p gaming.
For last couple of months I was pretty certain about buying ASUS 1060 6 GB DUAL, mainly because my friend uses it and he did not have any issues with it. It has also dropped in price, now it is $CAD 420. Gigabyte RX580 8GB goes for as low as $CAD 400.

Should I go for RX580 8GB or 1060 6GB?

Both of them are good cards, yes the RX580 uses more power...but lets be honest are you really going to notice it? NO! ! I have a MSI Armour RX580 and I am extremely happy. My card is also OC'ed quite a bit and on MSI after burned the avg power draw is +-140W while playing games/stress testing. The highest I have ever seen was +-170W when using Furmark for stress testing to test the OC.

One thing that stands out for me is the TDP. The 1060 equals the 580 for 2/3rds of the power. If you get one with a dual fan, I imagine the card and case temps will be lower and noise far less.

If you swing towards VRAM hungry games/settings and are likely to in the future, maybe consider the 580, but on that basis, you might look at the 1070 vs the 580 (and then you would be into 1440p territory).

Either card, flip a coin. Perhaps in future if you're considering a monitor with Freesync or Gsync could help with your gpu choice.

Seeing as you haven't bought memory yet, look into Samsung B-die chips vs Hynix used on DDR4 ram. Samsung's is preferred choice for Ryzen, have a look.
