[SOLVED] RX580 connector issue.

Hi, bit of a noob question, but we all have to start somewhere right..haha I have a 700w psu with 1 8 pin pcie connector, I purchased a RX580 (without checking the connections, i know bit of a noob moment haha) that needs 1- 8 pin and 1 - 6 pin, anyway I connected the only 1-8 pin and it booted up and installed all the drivers... my question is.. is it okay and safe just to use the 1 connector or is it a new Psu time? Thanks

Yes, that is the correct way to use that cable.

What PSU do you have?

Personally I wouldn't run the card with just the 8 pin, although the 8pin along with the PCIe Slot itself should be more then capable of delivery the required watts I still would want the extra overhead with the 6pin.

Ive never heard of this brand however a quick search and Ive found the consensus is that they are pure junk. So yes I would upgrade your PSU regardless with something that is better.

I would stick to Tier A or B, you could get away with Tier C but I would avoid it.

Thanks everyone yeah I think it is a new PSU, I just didnt understand why it came on with just the 8 pin connector
