Hello,

I’m split between graphics card models and justifying the price increase.
Will pricing come down? It’s not Particularly looking like it at the moment.

Despite having an RTX 2070 Super. Im not user of RT. Never used it before. DLSS is not a setting I’m familiar with noticing.

I play at 1440p and prefer high frame rates. Got a monitor which supports 165.
Preferable games, Anything Star Wars from EA , overwatch , world of tanks/warships, Lego games. So not hugely demanding, but I do like to dabble in other random games . Probably will get GTA 6 whenever it arrives next year.

The rest of my system will support any of the cards, with a 1000w PSU, I do not care about power efficiency lol

The current cards I’m debating:

RX 7800 XT Sapphire Nitro + for £530
RTX 4070 Super MSI X Slim white for £660 (24% price increase over 7800xt)
RX 7900XT Powercooler Hellhound for £720 ( 9% over 4070S) or (34% over 7800xt)

I could get cheaper cards for the 4070s, But I don’t like the looks/brands .
Whereas the Nitro + is a high quality card from sapphire.
The likelihood is, is that I’ll upgrade again in the next 2-3 years.

If anyone else was going off those prices I’ve listed what would be your preferences / thoughts?

Not sure what you are looking for. Pretty much the pricing on these cards pretty much matches where they sit performance wise...not the same % though. This comes down to your wallet mostly.

You are really going to have to find reviews/benchmarks for the games you actually play and then decide. There can be large difference in how different game perform and which cards they like. You will notice that AMD always uses certain games on the benchmarks they release and nvidia likes to always use ray tracing games.

My general guess is you are going to find AMD cards a better match to some of the game you play. The ones nvidia really excels at are going to be extremely graphic intensive things like say cyberpunk or games where DLSS is used to increase the frame rates with less damage to the frame quality. Then again starfield which is fairly graphic intensive runs better on amd...at least it did at launch I have not followed the controversy lately.

Yeah, benchmarks always seem to be these hugely graphical games. I'll try to have a look for benchmarks on the games I suggested. Someone's probably done them.
But I would disagree with the 4070s pricing matching where it sits performance-wise: nearly £700 for an AIB Partner card, depending on where it's bought. It seems insane that a 4070 card is that price.
Especially considering the 4070s isn't a 25% faster card vs the price of a 7800xt.

Have you had any recent experience with an AMD GPU?

7800XT seems like the logical choice. About the only thing going for the 4070 Super is the ray tracing and lower power requirement. It has a slight edge in average rasterization performance, but for the price, not worth it.

Could make an argument for the cheapest RTX4070 if you are more familiar with Nvidia. Saves you about 80 pounds.
