Hi there all, and from the title, it's pretty self explanatory. But wait! It might sound like a no brainer, but the 1600 is on sale as of current for $130 before tax on Amazon, as opposed to the 2600X's price tag of $219.99. Now, I find myself in a bit of a predicament. Which one should I choose? Any help is appreciated. I also am pairing it with a GTX 1070, if that helps your response at all.

for the price difference I would go with the 1600 unless you really have the extra money as the way I look at it (for myself anyway) if I am going to spend the extra for me I would go up another step lol to the 2700X but I multitask a lot so it helps (I have the 1800X)

So if the 2600 is the better deal over the 1600, is the 2600 a better deal over the 2600x? A 2600X is in my budget, but should I put the savings by buying a 2600 towards something more worthwhile, like a better GPU and such?

It's all priced based. If a 2600 is 150 or 160 vs a 210-230$ 2600x then yeah the 2600 is the deal. If the 2600 is not on sale and cost 190 or 200$ vs a 2600x on sale for like 190$ obviously 2600x.

Price determines which is better. I would need to pay no more than 30$ more to make the 2600x worth it. Let's say both are on sale, a 2600 at 160 and a 2600x at 190. I would take the 2600x in this scenario. It's 20% more $$ for less than 10% more clock speed. You can kind of get away with using a stock cooler on a 2600x, but on a 2600 stock runs way too hot.
