Ryzen 1600 w/ gtx 1070 or Ryzen 2600 w/ rx 580?

Should i get a Ryzen R5 1600 with a gtx 1070 8gb or a Ryzen R5 2600 with an rx 580 8gb? I am using it primarily for gaming and i have a 144htz monitor. Thanks!

If possible get the 2600 with the 1070.

The 2600 offers better single core performance than the 1600 as well as performing better with slower speed RAM. As far as the 580 vs 1070 the 1070 is better.

If your only option is between the two then I would get the 1600 with the 1070 and you can always upgrade the CPU later on.

I'd get the 1600/1070, just pair the 1600 with a good B350 motherboard and overclock it to around 3.8 or higher.

The 1600 will gimp your GTX1070. If you like to blow $500 on a GTX1070 only to see it unable to get max performance because you want to cheap out by $50 on a 1600... then more power to you. You want to go with an i5-8400 video cards faster than a GTX1060. Ryzen is for compute and work applications.

That's completely incorrect, even if you considered different resolutions the 1600, especially when overclocked would easily handle a much more powerful GPU without holding it back. A 1600 is comparable to my 4770K and even mine is paired with a GTX 1080 ti and no game has been held back with it at either 1080P or 4K.

It has been shown so many times that Ryzen is not going to maximize the GPU performance. Believe what you want, but even at 4Ghz is it is still gimping a high end GPU. FWIW...

If you look at the overclocking results you can see the difference which is very minimal.

(There comparing a $300 7700K to a $150 R5 1400, it's pretty obvious what is going to game better...)

Also remember that those tests were conducted about a year ago and BIOS updates has helped improved performance and memory compatibility. It's also going to come down to the game as some are more GPU dependent and others CPU and in any case the better choice between the two options is still going to be the 1600/1070.

1600 with 1070 all the way...though if it is a pure gaming PC then the 8400 with the 1070 will get you better results...
