I recently purchased a Ryzen 5 1600x (no overclocking yet) And I was curious to the max temperature this CPU can function at before shutting down the PC. Currently using a DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler which is an inexpensive air cooling unit. Plans for liquid cooling soon just wanted to put something on top of the Ryzen to cool it. Idles at about 35-40c and I've seen it anywhere from 50-65c under a gaming load. I also notice jumps in temperature up to 10c for a second or so then a gradual decrease back to where it was. Thermal paste application was applied as usual. I did strip a screw on one of the am4 brackets on my new mobo thinking I needed to take the thing off to install the cooler, The cooling unit is holding very tightly with 3 of the 4 screws in place on the brackets it's attached to. Not sure if that would affect temps. Any insight appreciated. :)

I'd not worry about the instantaneous/spurious spikes, and 65C while under load is no cause for concern...

If you can't replace the mount, I'd consider some sort of safe way to apply some mild pressure to the side currently not under tension, as you don't want your sink even slightly cocked...; a tie strap or two comes to mind. Not pretty, but functional. (If replacing the sink anyway, it would be short term anyway...)

Awesome, thanks for the post! I'm assuming the liquid cooler I buy will come with its own set of mounting brackets. I'm currently looking at the Corsair h60. It has amazing reviews and my friend has one and told me it cooled his rig quite nicely.
