Ryzen 24gb of RAM 2x4gb 2x8gb

I have a ryzen 5 2600 and a x370 mobo (bios updated to work with ryzen 2nd gen). I know ryzen has some issues with 4 DIMMs populated, but I just received a new kit 2x8gb identical to my current 2x4gb (identical CAS, manufacturer, just the size is different). Should I populate 4 slots or just sell my old 2x4gb kit

Is this a gaming rig? There is not a game out there that uses more than 16gb of RAM. Any unused RAM will just sit idle doing nothing. So only keep the RAM if you are running applications that can use it. If you are not, then sell the RAM and buy something with the money.

Yeah it is a gaming rig. Well I usually watch a video with several other tabs open and game at the same time. I'm not sure how much ram that would consume. But if I decide to keep the 8gb kit, will there be any instability or performance dips expected?

Using 4 sticks on a dual channel board will put more stress on the memory controller. But as long as you can get the system to boot and it is running at the rated speed, then you should not have instability or performance issues.
