Hi all,

I currently have a Ryzen 2600, B450i motherboard and 2x8GB 3200mhz RAM.

I've only just realised that my current CPU may be limiting my RAM speed to 2933mhz.

Is it worth upgrading the CPU to bumb up the limit so I can utilise my 3200mhz RAM? Or should I wait until the Ryzen 4000 CPUs are available and upgrade motherboard and RAM to DDR5?

It's not CPU problem, 2600 can run much faster RAM. Make sure you have updated BIOS and enable XMP/DOCP to 3200.

The 2600 is not ram speed limited until well past 3200mhz...the issue would be either the memory or the motherboard. Run the XMP profile and boost the ram voltage by .05v until stable at 3200mhz...I would avoid going past 1.4v on the memory unless you're running Samsung B die.

Be aware that running memory beyond 1.35v is over clocking and will likely void your warranty.

Thanks all, I had no idea this had to be manually configured to get the RAM to operate at it's advertised speed (3200mhz). I've selected 'Profile 2' within the XMP overclock settings for the RAM which states the 3200mhz speed. Is that it then? Nothing else needed?

Yes thats it, nothing else needed. Xmp sets timings and voltage to run ram at it's rated speed.

Sorry i assumed you tried 3200 but was limited to 2933. Didn't realise you were basing the question on the cpu's memory controller being 2933. Reason for linking you to another thread earlier.
